Nutrigenetic & Functional Nutrition Lab Tests

As part of our holistic evaluation, we offer nutrigenetic and functional nutrition lab tests. These tests are tools to help get to the root of your health issues and are used to personalize your nutrition care plan. Click the links provided to learn more about each test.

Food Sensitivity Mediator Release Test (MRT)

Food sensitivity testing can provide valuable insight into immune function and inflammation triggers.  The LEAP/MRT test for food sensitivities is the most accurate test for identifying non-IgE mediated immune reactions. Unlike most food sensitivity tests, it does not measure IgG but looks at mediator release after cells are exposed to food antigens. This test is not only the key to solving your food puzzle, but it also ultimately may be the key to getting you out of “food jail.”  We are Certified LEAP Therapists (CLTs) and have been successfully using this test since 2007.

    Wheat & Gluten Tests

We use the Wheat Zoomer test from Vibrant America/Wellness Lab to identify issues of wheat and gluten sensitivity and to evaluate intestinal permeability (leaky gut). Celiac screening is also included. Celiac genetics is an optional add-on.

    Stool Testing

Stool testing provides valuable insight into the state of your gut health. Typically, a stool sample is collected over the course of 1–3 days and then sent to a lab for analysis. These tests will show if there are any pathogenic bacteria, yeast, or parasites present in the colon. It will also show if there is inflammation in the GI tract, evaluate digestive enzymes, detect fat malabsorption, and identify immune-system activation in the gut. A personalized Nutrition Care Plan will be given to address any issues identified. We use functional stool tests from Genova Diagnostics (GI Effects) and Diagnostic Solutions (GI MAP).

    SIBO Testing

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is a leading cause of IBS. A SIBO breath test looks for any overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine which could be causing digestive distress. During the test, you drink a sugar solution and then blow into tubes to capture any gasses that are produced by bacterial fermentation. A breath sample is taken at timed intervals over the course of three hours. There are three types of bacterial overgrowth: hydrogen positive, methane positive, and hydrogen sulfide positive. Recommended treatment protocols are dependent on which gasses are out of range on the test report. Hence, it is always preferable to run a breath test for SIBO before a treatment protocol. These labs analyze the breath samples: Aerodiagnostics and Trio Smart.

    Vitamin & Mineral Testing

Evaluating micronutrient deficiencies can be an important part of your health puzzle. A blood test can identify specific nutrient needs and take the guesswork out of supplementation. This test measures the amount of nutrients inside your cells, rather than in the serum only. This gives a true picture of what deficiencies are present. We use Vibrant-America/Wellness Lab, which looks at over 70 markers of micronutrient status.

    Organic & Amino Acids Testing

Think of the Organic Acids Test (OAT) as a look under the hood. This test measures the metabolic compounds in your urine, providing many important clues. It can be used to evaluate cellular and mitochondrial energy production, gastrointestinal function, nutrient utilization, and neurotransmitter processing. It also gives clues to possible nutrient deficiencies and bacterial or yeast infections. We use the OAT test from  Mosaic Diagnostics.

    Gene Testing

Did you know that you have the power to change the way your genes express themselves through daily nutrition and  lifestyle choices? Yes, you do! The 3×4 Genetics Test shows you the areas of your health that are most vulnerable as well as what you can do about it to minimize impact. Areas of insight include: Heart Health, Bone Health, Inflammation, Detoxification, Methylation, Weight Loss Resistance, Athletic Performance, Nutrient Utilization, and much, much more! This test takes personalized nutrition to the next level!  Watch this video to learn more about 3×4 Genetic Testing.

    Environmental/Toxin Exposure

Environmental exposures (heavy metals, toxins) and viral infections can have extremely profound physical symptoms and are often missed in a traditional medical setting. For example, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can arise from these exposures. The testing used depends on the presentation and plan of care, as there are many options. Some of the most common we use are environmental tesing from Vibrant America/Wellness Lab.
